Tonight my mind is going travelling
Back in time just a couple of years
To a girl with sleeves unravelling
Lightning bolts hanging from ears
Told me she lives in the ashes
Where the mountainside burns slow
And with the flames final lashes
She’d pick up all her things and go
For days on end the fire ravaged
As I lay there in her arms
Dissected secrets of the universe
She told me how to keep from harm
Shed all of your clothes
Step into the water alone
Feel the weight disappear from your bones
Drift above while below
The tide carries you home
So the breath you stubbornly hold
Can finally let go
When the sky finally cracked open
Weeping the wild pyre clean
Sure as the sun sets in mourning
She was nowhere to be seen
If by chance one day you meet her
Know your time it will be brief
Forever echoes in your head now
Of the words she spoke so sweet
Shed all of your clothes
Step into the water alone
Feel the weight disappear from your bones
Drift above while below
The tide carries you home
So the breath you stubbornly hold
Can finally let go
It's been a really long time since I've been that impressed by songwriting so creative and smart, plus the courage in displaying such vulnerability, and touched by the sheer beauty of the music, all at the same time. (I'm usually not a fan of digital only music purchases, but just had to make an exception here, after having the pleasure of experiencing a live gig by the wonderful Lucy, and buying the followup album on CD there - also heavily recommended!) mawit
Well... Like some people here, I never really liked that song! However, this is *so* much better than the original, for all the reasons already listed by deluded_marxist! The depth of feelings here, especially from the vocals but also the slow music, really is on a whole other level! Thanks to Tara Tantrum for taking me here! Highly recommended!!! bmurator
