Darling, I gotta say before I go
There’s something that I just want you to know
You know you really fucked me up when you left just as you came
Now I’m trying but I think I might never be the same
I felt it in my gut, it’s in my bones
Honey, stop using your head - it’s making you cold
You say you’re feeling rough, you say you’re feeling old
Come on start a fire, stop doing what you’re told
Oh Lucy don’t you cry
You’re still the only light in my eye
Well the moon fell from the sky and the river’s run dry
You know everything good went away when you said goodbye
Baby, don’t be sad, don’t feel so blue
Don’t be mad - have you really thought this through?
We both know by now this is the only thing to do
No love is better than the love I never knew
You’re crazy darling, listen to what you say
Are you really gonna throw this all away?
You know I still think about you every single day
I sleep with one eye open waiting for you to come back to say
Oh Lucy don’t you cry
You’re still the only light in my eye
Well the moon fell from the sky and the river’s run dry
You know everything good went away when you said goodbye
It's been a really long time since I've been that impressed by songwriting so creative and smart, plus the courage in displaying such vulnerability, and touched by the sheer beauty of the music, all at the same time. (I'm usually not a fan of digital only music purchases, but just had to make an exception here, after having the pleasure of experiencing a live gig by the wonderful Lucy, and buying the followup album on CD there - also heavily recommended!) mawit
Well... Like some people here, I never really liked that song! However, this is *so* much better than the original, for all the reasons already listed by deluded_marxist! The depth of feelings here, especially from the vocals but also the slow music, really is on a whole other level! Thanks to Tara Tantrum for taking me here! Highly recommended!!! bmurator
